First JODDAS VAPD strip: Banana Split Flavored Oreo
Alice is a character that’s sort of based off this annoying girl from Middle School when I moved to Oregon. She would always sit behind me as I was drawing comic strips and read over my shoulders. Alice then became a character I based a lot of preppy girls in my high school while still attaining the annoyance of the girl from Middle school.

Like all my Calvin & Hobbes stage comics some editing was involved in this strip. Jill’s personality helped design Alice’s personality. Jill wasn’t an important character in the Calvin & Hobbes stage, but I like to think she helped in the making of Alice today.
Later on during the Life Sucks page I developed a desire to draw random pictures of fantasy characters. You might notice two characters look awfully familiar to some of my characters today.

I don’t remember the name of anyone in this picture with the exception of Jax the wolf on the far right, but the scythe wielding pigtailed girl would help make up of Alices design in Life Stinks
So when I started writing Life Stinks I wanted to include some female characters, but there were only three girls that really influenced me at that time. So I imagined that girl from middle school whenever coming up with Alice in Life Stinks. Alice was a sneaky girl with a crush on a certain boy. She was also the same height as everyone back then apparently.

Alice as a character then began to grow on me and I felt a loving connection with the little girl. She may seem lame to some people, but I feel she’s an important part of JODDAS VAPD and she kind of helps with the cute factor in my comics.

Alice has had a lot of wardrobe changes over the years. I’m sure I even have other designs for clothing changes between 2008-2012 somewhere.
Alice is young girl who has a different perspective in life. She thinks life is full of positives and her height should not be a problem. She may look like a child, but she has the mouth of an adult and she’s not afraid to show it. Alice may act girly, but sometimes being girly isn’t a terrible thing. Her friends may tease her all the time, but in the end she knows they care for her just as she cares for them.
