First JODDAS VAPD Strip: Try the New App App
Scott started out as one of the original four characters of JODDAS VAPD. Based on a slightly goofy friend of mine in high school he was welcomed into the comics. Originally Scott was just a stoner (I’m not even kidding). During the Calvin & Hobbes stage I had watched Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back and kind of based Scott off of Jay. I was only in Middle School at the time and didn’t have a real grasp on stoners at the time.

Keep in mind most of my Calvin & Hobbes stage strips were in bad taste so I had to edit this strip. This strip was made about a week after I introduced Drew. It’s the first strip that features both Dan and Scott.
During the Life Sucks Stage of JODDAS VAPD Scott developed more of his own personality than constantly being stoned all the time (or toasted as I wrote it out to be). However the stoner aspect was the only thing keeping Scott and David separate as they were basically the same characters. To change that David had his AM Talk.

Not sure why this one makes me laugh, but it does.
Finally Life Stinks was a moment in which I thought about getting rid of Scott and just keeping David instead. Unfortunately I couldn’t just get rid of him as that would be like deleting one of my best friends from life, and Scott is important to the development of JODDAS VAPD. So I clearly wanted to get rid of the stoner trait and gave him the personality he has today. New design to distinguish him as his own person, and Scott became a real personal favorite character to use when I just want to do something over the top and silly.

After I made this strip I knew I made the right choice in changing Scott.
Scotts design never got huge changes, but his character and personality I think had the biggest turn around. I prefer todays Scott over the previous versions of Scott by far. The fact I changed him from a lame one liner stoner character to a goofy perverted, but lovable character means a lot to me.

Scotts Design has hardly changed. He kept his freckles since the Calvin & Hobbes Stage and the only changes on Scott since Life Stinks is the length of his sleeves which thinking back I’m not really sure why the longs sleeves were necessary
Scott the perverted yet lovable guy dreams of one day meeting the right gal. Problem is he’s too impatient and wants them all. Not a very motivated worker he tries to slide by in school in hopes of earning his bachelors in the technology field. Though most people would ignore the guy his friends see him as a good person even if a little weird.
