Just Incredible:

Wow how weird would this be? We got Small World in Ant-Man, why not jump the shark entirely? Still looking forward to Civil war movie whenever it comes out though. In the mean time here’s a super awesome anime review which actually works with todays strip sort of:

It’s probably the most hyped up anime series from the fall season and honestly I’ve been waiting patiently to watch this one. One Punch Man is an amazing epic anime if you haven’t already seen it already. It’s like the strength of Superman mixed in with over the top action from Dragonball Z and a dash of humor you would get One Punch Man.

So the story goes like this: Saitama is a hero who possesses strength that goes beyond the limits of man. He’s absolutely powerful that all of his enemies are defeated with a single punch. One would expect this to be a blessing, but for Saitama it is the ultimate handicap as he can never truly feel the exhilaration of a true fight he desperately wants. He can take down the strongest men, titans, mutated animals, and even the almighty Sea King, but they just can’t fill his deep gap. What makes things more interesting is that there’s clearly something bigger going on around Saitama, but we’re hardly ever shown in detail of the true story happening in the background, but honestly who really cares?

Now the show isn’t just Saitama punching things the end. There are other characters that have unique powers like the cyborg Genis who takes an interest in Saitama’s power and becomes his protege. One Punch Man has an interesting and colorful cast of side characters that are not only funny like an Iron Man parody and a Sailor moon parody, but can also be pretty bad ass. The fights in this series despite mostly being humorous are really action packed. One monster gets into an epic battle with multiple heroes at once and the animation of depth of the battle is just extreme. Even some fights with Saitama are really awesome and over the top as well.

I should mention that One Punch Man is not only action packed, but a satire of the action/super hero genre. Much like another popular hero anime series Tiger & Bunny (which I also love) heroes are looked at like a big endorsement deal. Heroes are ranked by popularity and skills and are paid for it based on their ranks. The series also mocks action animes in general paying nods to series like Dragonball, Naruto, Sailormoon, and even Attack on Titans. You don’t have to know a lot about those series as I think the humor comes off regardless of that knowledge.

If there’s anything negative I can say about One Punch Man it’s this… How come this series couldn’t be longer? It’s a shame that the series is only 12 episodes long, but hopefully we’ll be getting more episodes in the near future as this series is probably one of the best series I’ve seen in a long time. I highly recommend One Punch Man I really don’t think you’d be disappointed.

10/10: Masterpiece

Final Thought: “The action is epic, and it comes from the most plain looking character ever.”

Living in a Slacksters Paradise:

13 more days until Christmas

I never understood how this transformation thing works in todays anime (now that I think about it in any). Is the character legit going through a physical transformation or is it just an illusion? I don’t know, here’s todays review.

Let’s begins todays review Himouto! Umaru-chan, an anime about what might be the laziest little sister since… every other anime about a lazy younger sister after Ore No Imouto creepy incest adventures. However to this shows credit there’s not disgusting incest themes in this show. Instead Umaru is just a lazy otaku who lives with her older brother. How does it stand out?

To the shows credit it has two things that work in it’s credit. It’s humorous in both character development and its writing. The other thing it has going for it is the fact that it doesn’t need blatant fan service in order to keep the audience watching. The show is actually pretty funny to watch. Umaru goes to school and acts like the perfect honor student, but the second she gets home she dons her hoodie and transforms to the cola drinking lazy little demon sister from hell. Her brother is also kind of likable despite his generic male protagonist looks.

This is one of those rare shows in which despite how terrible the main character may appear she’s still very likable no matter what. It’s nice that she isn’t in love with her brother, but loves him because he keeps her company and accepts her for who she is. The brother is the same way, even though he’s always yelling at her to get her act straight he still loves her enough to take care of her and not judge too much on her choices.

The supporting cast is also very likable as well with Ebina living right below Umaru and her brother, but being distracted by her crush to notice Umaru’s weird alter persona. There’s also Umaru’s classroom rival and her stalker that are both entertaining, but I have a hard time remembering them all that much. I think the one character I don’t really care for is the brothers co-worker who is way too obsessed with his own little sister, but it’s kind of sweet as to why he is the way that he is (but still doesn’t change the fact it’s still creepy).

I think the one thing that doesn’t really make me mad, but just confuses the crap out of me about the show is the Umaru transformation. I just don’t get it as she’s still Umaru, but when she wears her hoodie she’s still the same person so why does everyone view her as someone else? I don’t it’s just weird in my opinion.

So to be perfectly honest this is all I have to say about this show… “when can we get a second season?” I really like this show and wish I could more of it. As soon as the last episode was viewed that was my immediate thought. I just wanted to keep watching this series and hope that another season comes out in the future. I need more Umaru screaming.

9/10: Awesome

Final thoughts: “It’s a very entertaining sibling comedy that’s fun to watch.”

We Have One Thank You:

Alice is the designated cute character of JODDAS VAPD. No once can take her place, not even the adorable Mashiro. Who’s Mashiro? Find out in todays anime review.

Todays review is based on a show I was very hesitant to watch after the grand master piece that was Ro-Kyu_Bo! Luckily absolutely everything I hated about that show wasn’t found in todays anime Mikakunin de Shinkoukei. A romantic comedy about a young girl Kobeni who has turned 16 only to find out she’s engaged to a young man Hakuya from the mountain. Not only that he’s brought his little sister Mashiro along to live with Kobeni and her older sister Benio. If you can’t tell by the fact that I cared enough to remember the characters names this time around I do have some positive things to say.

So the description I already gave you is both true and false, but I keep it like that because anything else I say to describe the story may be considered spoilers and can kind of ruin the surprise twist midway through the season, and of course I want to encourage people to watch this one. The romance is actually very charming, and it doesn’t do anything like a generic harem romance, and even though there is a love triangle it doesn’t last long. Kobeni and Hakuya are a cute couple both with their positives and their negative characteristics. It also helps that most of the other characters help make them stronger characters.

Much like another anime I reviewed back in summer Mikakunin de Shinkoukei doesn’t solely rely on ecchi and fan service to make it’s humor. It mostly comes from the characters being unique and fun to watch. Even my least favorite character is still fun to watch. They also don’t try to make the characters sexy in anyway, Mashiro acts like an actual child in elementary school and isn’t sexualized, Kobeni deals with actual problems younger sisters would have to deal with, and Benio… well she’s the only exception as she is way too obsessed with little sisters. My only real complaint may be Hakuya being too bland, but to be fair he kind of has to be in order to be likable near the end.

I think this may be one of the only romance animes I’ve watched outside of Gekkan Shoujo where the main focus of romantic interest is centered only around the two main characters. It doesn’t happen that often when there’s multiple female characters and Mikakunin de Shinkoukei makes sure to remind the audience that Hakuya and Kobeni are the couple we want to see at the end.

I don’t have any real complaints outside Benio and maybe some moments in the anime where the humor can be a little dry. I think that this is a very good series and much like Gekkan Shoujo would be something I would tell a non anime fan to watch. If you want a cute romantic comedy give it a watch, I don’t think you’ll be too disappointed.

9/10: Awesome!

Final Thoughts: “Mashiro may be one of the best elementary school characters in some time”

Basket Case

Basket Case:

The real life Drew was never really interested in basketball as I remember. Ironically the first time I met Drew was in P.E. playing basketball. So I saw a new anime this week, and well just continue below for more.

This week I’m talking about elementary basketball anime Ro-Kyu-Bo! I heard about this series after watching a Two Best Friends Friday Nights Fistacuffs episode. They kept on picking this Tomoka character to play as. I decided to look up the series and read that this was kind of an anime version of the classic 90’s underdog sports movie. I was kind of excited until I actually had to watch the movie itself.

From just the first episode alone, not even the whole thing, but just the first five minutes I knew this series was going to hell. First off it was fine with the girls just seconds away from a victory, but then immediately switch to a scene in which the girls are wearing maid outfits. These girls are in elementary school! The story should have been a boy who’s lost all desire to play basketball and trains a bunch of underdog girls basketball and gains his love for the game again, but instead we go through this shlock of crap to get to that story.

This show really sexualizes elementary school so badly. Last week I talked about how I hated the skimpy outfits in Neptunia, but this show takes it to the next level of perverse and slightly pedo. This is truly a pedo bear approved anime as every single female character looks like they’re in elementary school. Even the teacher who gets the main character to join the basketball club looks like she should be a student as well. It’s so disturbing as to how much they sexualize these little girls.

Well other than being completely creepy and sexualizing elementary school girls they sometimes bring up basketball in some parts. So in a series that’s supposed to center around basketball does the animation hold up? Nope, it looks pretty lame. I think most of the animation went into putting these girls into perverted moments like a tight biker pants camel toe, bikini basketball, and I’m not even kidding the coach hiding under the covers of one of the girls.

The characters in this series are not very interesting. I think the only person I actually liked was Saki, but even she got really stupid with her talking like an adult persona, which brings me to another problem. The girls do not act like elementary school students at all. It’s like the creators of this series didn’t have a clue as to how little kids act so they just followed generic harem anime troupes and put them into little kids. The main character is even a generic male protagonist just with an interest in basketball.

So despite all of the many flaws in this series I will give this anime some credit. If you got rid of all the sexualization of elementary school girls in this show you would have a pretty decent sports anime. The actual idea of a kid who’s given up on basketball finding his love for the game in sharing it with others is a rather touching story, but when you have all this perverted imagery and dialogue thrown in you lose that focus. Hell the main characters loss of basketball is due to his coach going to jail because he felt up an elementary school student, but then he basically does the same thing too. I don’t know if this series is trying to promote basketball or the idea that pedophilia is a good thing (btw IT’S BAD!)

So would I recommend you watch Ro-Kyu-Bo!? No, I wouldn’t. It’s simply not worth the viewing. The only way I would say watch this show is if you really don’t believe me about the disgusting sexual imagery in this anime. Do not watch it, I already feel bad about actually sitting through the entire series in the hope of getting something good out of it. Watch something else like Slam Dunk. I’ve never seen Slam Dunk, but I’m pretty sure it’s better than Ro-Kyu-Bo!

2/10: Awful

Final Thoughts: “What could be a good story is wasted on disturbing fan service”
