Epic Holiday Adventure:
I do apologize I didn’t like the fact that you can’t zoom in on the gallery mode, so I had to do it like this. So instead of each picture I’ll just say this: Click images to enlarge.
I wanted to try something different with the Holiday special. I wanted to make a Christmas story that is both funny and heartwarming at the same time. JODDAS VAPD has very unique characters and I can’t always show that with just four panels at a time. I feel Christmas is a holiday that is slowly beginning to die, as in people often forget what Christmas is actually for. I love the holiday, but over the past few years it just seems to die slowly for me. However it is truly one of the best holidays though as it can usually bring out the best in people (or sometimes the worst). I just wanted to convey my sweet Christmas tale here on this day.
I used a lot of cameo characters and I am sad I couldn’t add in all of the cameos I wanted in there (Guess Captain America and Terra can be in the next special I do provided I do something similar to this again). Originally Rick was supposed to be Chris Redfield, and the Kranks were only added after I had re-watched that awful film during the process of doing Patrick & David arc. The joke about Drew was added because I wanted to see if “The Interview” thing would be resolved, but it was already too late and a Drew arc was taken out altogether.
I tried throwing in as much genres into this special: action, sci-fi, horror, crime, romance, and even some ecchi. I wanted this to stand out as something amazing, fun, and of course silly. I used more references than I really wanted, but I couldn’t really stop myself I was having way too much fun when I was writing the script and then drawing the scene.
I did actually get my girlfriend a Christmas gift prior to me even making this strip so don’t think I am currently shopping right now. When it comes to gift getting I have to get something that I feel the other person will really like.
This was a very hard one to do. I really wish I had come up with this a month ahead of time instead of a week before Christmas. I really thought I would have this done back on Monday, but that clearly didn’t happen. I literally finished this at midnight of Christmas day. This one took a lot of time with a twenty page script and over 200 panels for me to work with.
I really hope you enjoy this tale and I wish you all a Merry Christmas. I might take a break and skip this Saturdays strip, if not I will have a late release time.
