600th Special:

Sorry about the long page, I kind of had to make this in the idea that Tapas could read it and I just wanted to make the single pieces.

Wow 600 strips, I think the most amazing thing is that I actually planned for this strip unlike every other ones…

I got the idea of your creations supporting yourself from the artist Scruffy Turtle when he made a post of a Haru drawing telling him to do his best. I liked the concept and decided that I wanted my character to support my other character in her journey to becoming the real deal (hopefully by February, still debating on page uploads or full chapter uploads at this stage in the making).

Hopefully a small bite of Ivolice is to peoples liking, I’ll have one final little tid bit of Ivolice coming closer to the actual realease of Ivolice and the Emissaries.

No strip this Thursday, sorry I just want this strip to stick for awhile.

As always:

A Final Little Fantasy

A Final Little Fantasy:

No joke, just my own personal love letter to my favorite video game franchise.

I’ve been playing a lot of Persona 5 lately, and next to my copy of Persona 5 is a copy of Final Fantasy XV (which I have yet to touch)… So that was part of my reason for making todays strip.

The other big reason for making a strip dedicated to the Final Fantasy series is the lack of a new main title Final Fantasy game. For almost 10 years we waited for Final Fantasy XIII versus which just turned out to be Final Fantasy XV… When that original announcement was made I remember not being all that impressed. Don’t get me wrong XV is way better than XIII, but the fact that it was hastily transformed into a main line Final Fantasy game only made me concerned where the franchise is actually headed. I remember looking forward to seeing the next big Final Fantasy game, and I kept an eye on E3 this year in the hopes of hearing a Final Fantasy XVI announcement or even a concept art announced… but none to be made. Even the hyped up Final Fantasy VII remake (which by the way ten years to make XV imagine the wait on VII remake) isn’t nearly as exciting as hearing about a new main line Final Fantasy title.

The hopes of a new main line title seems pretty distant right now, I mean Final Fantasy XV wasn’t even completed upon its release, hell technically the true vision of XIII wasn’t even accomplished. A series I remember being excited to jump into after a long rough day of school is literally going nowhere. I mean don’t get me wrong I’m excited the new Dissidia game is coming to consoles (remember when I made that strip for that game literally two years ago?), and the Kingdom Hearts III game trailer was pretty dope, but call me selfish for wanting to look forward to a new adventure to my favorite video game franchise.

A lot of my life (as embarrassing and stupid as this is going to sound) is based on lessons I learned from Final Fantasy (and other games in general). When I was facing identity issues about being half asian and not really knowing what kind of a person I am, I had Final Fantasy VI and Terra’s struggle with who she was (still my favorite video game character and game). When I became a teen I felt some of the same struggles Squall had with society. When I was becoming more of an adult Final Fantasy X taught me that the things I have been brought up to believe in can also hold dark secrets and deceit. It’s the only game series I can feel comfortable having my next of kin playing because I know there’s lessons to be learned (not to say other games can’t do the same).

So Square, take the time, and hopefully a new Fantasy can come to light. Please don’t let the Fantasy die.

The Cat, The Perv, and The Ecchi

The Cat, The Perv, and The Ecchi:

I really did try to design a new armor, but I just didn’t like how it turned out so instead I drew this comic strip…

So what is this series that I’m out of nowhere bringing up? Well I would like to introduce you to one of the first comic series I started reading whenever I moved into Tapastic, or Tapas as their new name is announced.

The Cat, The Vine, and The Victory is a fantasy adventure comic set in a world in which humans don’t exist, but instead a hybrid of dragon like humans. I know what you might be thinking, “Are you advertising some furry comic?” Hey, it isn’t furries… They are dragons lizards don’t have fur so don’t be so quick to judge.

I came across this series after doing a collab art for Valentines day 2017 which you can see below:

I didn’t want to just draw the character I got (I got the cat obviously). I started reading the first two chapters and something about it peeked by interest and I continued to read the series even after my submission was made.

I think the thing about this series that catches my immediate attention is the 90s anime feel it gives. The anime series I give the most credit to for getting me into anime as much as I am would be Slayers the Motion Picture. I think when I first noticed Victory she reminded me of Lina Inverse. Granted she is nothing like Lina, but Victory is a girl who at the current time of writing this is a young girl still shrouded in some mystery.

vict 1.png

The story revolves around Victory a young girl living in the woods who holds the power of fire breath. She lives with her childhood cat, one day she’s visited by an eccentric water guardian by the name of Vine. Vine carries with him a talisman that holds the power of the water spirit. When Victory accidentally absorbs the talisman she along side the cat and Vine must set out on a journey to discover these new powers of hers, while staying cautious of an ancient dragon thought to have been defeated ages ago.

If I really have anything negative to say about it is sometimes the dialogue can be a bit much, but to fault it for the same thing I’m at fault for from time to time would be quite unfair. Other than that minor complaint I don’t have much to really complain about.

I bring attention to this series as it’s an entertaining tale that I feel deserves some more attention. For only being about two years old there’s a lot of passion in work put into this series and I just wanted to spread the word that this wonderful series exists. Yes it’s a bit of a read, and I didn’t get into full detail about what this series is about, but I still feel it’s worth the time to check out.

Hope you enjoyed.

Please check out The Cat, The Vine, and The Victory:

JODDAS VAPD presents: Battle of the Holidays

JODDAS VAPD presents Battle of the Holidays:

If you’re waiting for santa right now here’s something to read while you wait. Sorry for the incredibly late post, I really tried to get this out early, but with transitioning to Tapastic and the new details I’ve added to my comics it now takes me slightly longer, and I didn’t anticipate a special being even more difficult. So enjoy!

Trinity Sleven

Trinity Sleven:

So because of school and work I haven’t had a lot of time to spend on anime lately. With Summer vacation I’m trying to get caught up on some anime series I’ve missed out on and have been recommended I watch. One of these series being Trinity Seven.

So I didn’t look up anything for this series before watching it. All I know is that each of the girls represents the seven deadly sins: envy, greed, wrath, lust, sloth, vanity, and gluttony. I thought to myself “awesome, something I haven’t seen yet.” Turns out I’ve seen this hock of crap millions of times already, it’s just been repackaged in a new box with the same crap again. The story revolves around male protagonist (because I can’t remember a single characters name except for Levi and Lilith) who loses his cousin (another harem anime cliche younger sister love interest) in some magical field of doom or some crap. So he creates an alternate reality where nothing ever happened when Lilith comes to rescue him from his alternate reality. Protagonist is given the option of giving up a momento from his cousin or death, being an “edgy badass” he chooses to be a magician in order to find a way to bring back his cousin. Sounds interesting enough.

So protagonist goes to the school and is informed he must seek the guide of top class students in their field of expertise called the Trinity Seven. When all the Trinity gather together protagonist will learn all he needs to learn about magic and ultimately save his cousin… is what I’d like to say, but that doesn’t actually happen.

So what should be a dramatic fantasy adventure turns out to be a surprisingly generic harem anime. All the generic harem anime troupes are in this series from constant scenes in which the female characters are naked for no reason, random fan service beach episode that doesn’t move the plot, and of course an entire cast of male perverts ogling women constantly (including an adult headmaster macking on under aged students). This series claims to have a deep plot, but in reality there isn’t one. The cousin is hardly ever mentioned past the first episode and honestly I don’t see any reason why the protagonist wants to rescue her except that he could score with her if she came back to life.

Instead of learning magic or trying to save his cousin our protagonist spends his entire time dicking around with the seven girls getting into cliche harem anime moments. I’m saying cliche harem anime moments because you can see these exact moments in every harem anime without a real identity. Some harem animes can define themselves from others like Kanon uses a deep story and nonchalant protagonist to keep viewers watching, Infinite Stratos (first season) had sci-fi robot fighting to remind audience that it wasn’t just harem, and Haganai used over the top comedy to keep its own identity. Trinity Seven tries nothing to keep itself away from other harem animes even though it has something other harem animes don’t have: a very interesting premise.

This series should have been very good with the idea of the seven deadly sins, but none of the characters show NO distinction of the sins and are “masters” of their respected field. Also none of the characters are very interesting I only remember Lilith because everyone is always saying her name and Levi because its the name of an even better Levi from Black Lagoon. None of the girls have a personality outside their cliche characteristic: Loli girl is cute and looks like a little sister, Tsundere girl is always mad, but secretly shy, Mysterious Girl is mostly keeping to herself and hardly ever revealing details about herself, Slutty girls is well you know, Emotionless girl is unrealistic and would never exist anywhere outside this anime, Lovable Goof Ball is easy going and goes with the flow, plus she has huge knockers, and Obvious Love Interest is obviously designed for fans to want to see naked because she’s the most innocent. Holy crap I hate this anime right now.

I’ll admit I only made it to episode 9┬ábefore I gave up, because I’ve seen how series like these go. For the past 9 episode it’s been nothing but bland character acknowledgement (because character development does not exist in this series) and absolutely 0 action. Action scenes in this series are so brief, barely noticeable and quickly replaced with some perverted moment. I think the only real action I recall being amazed by was when Levi fought slutty chick and sacrificed her clothes as a decoy, but even that wasn’t that interesting. I can predict that the ending is anti climactic in which there’s some lame antagonist character introduced at the last moment (because there hasn’t been any at all since the beginning) and they have one episode of lame fighting and character wins through the power of friendship and the end cousin isn’t saved and we hope you buy our merchandise and wait for season 2 where nothing happens… again.

It really bums me out that the last anime I watched was way back in December and this is what I had to watch as my first anime for the summer. I don’t often quit a series mid season, but this one I made an exception for. Story should of been good, characters should have been interesting, animation is just meh look at the naked girls. Considering I started watching this series 2 days ago and I can’t remember a single characters name outside of two is pretty bad. Luckily the series I switched to Sabagebu! (which by the very good comedy anime poking fun at survival game genre) is making up for this generic harem anime piece of crap wrapped up in a beautiful premise packaging.

3/10 Boring

Final Thoughts: THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INTERESTING! Not everything has to have nudity and fan service!
